February 2nd – 5 months old!!

Dear Landen,

It’s been 5 short months since you joined us.  Time is flying by!  We can hardly believe how big you’re getting.  You won’t go back to the doctor until next month but we can tell you’re growing.  In the past month you’ve been having a lot more periods of fussiness.  Mommy has read that there is a big developmental jump at the end of four months that can explain this.  We hope that’s all it is because it’s no fun when you’re not happy.  However, when you’re happy it’s a blast!!  You’ve started laughing like crazy and it is the sweetest sound we’ve ever heard.  We could listen to it all day.  You love it when we talk to you in your throaty alien-speak.  You are reaching for toys more.  Your favorites are your Oball and octopus.  You’ve pretty much completely given up your pacifier.  It was never something you really loved to start out with, but now you usually pop it right back out when we attempt to put it in your mouth.

We gave you rice cereal for the first time during the middle of the month.  You were not ready!  We waited about a week and a half before trying again and now you’re eating it like a champ.  You are still working on getting some of your coordination figured out but you caught on very quickly.  If we don’t have the next bite ready for you fast enough you start complaining and banging your hand on the high chair.  Impatient!  You like your cereal to be on the thick side.  We think it’s easier for you to move to the back of your mouth that way.

You rolled over from your tummy to your back for the first time a couple of days ago.  Unfortunately Mommy and Daddy had just run into the kitchen while you were on the floor in the family room so we didn’t see it.  When we went back into the family room we said “how’d he get onto his tummy?”  We thought it might have been a fluke but then you did it again the next day.  Now you’re a rolling machine!  You love turning onto your side and tummy.  Unfortunately you’re not too fond of being on your tummy for very long and seem to have forgotten how to roll off of it.  This results in a lot of whining and us flipping you over … all. day. long.  You move around all over the place in your crib.  When we go to check on you, you’re never in the same position we left you.  This means you sleep on your tummy about half the time these days.  You prefer to be on your side.

In a couple of days Mommy is going to go back to her job and you are going to spend time each week with your grandparents.  Mondays and Tuesdays with Lolo, and Thursdays and Fridays with Mimi.  You get to stay home with Mommy on Wednesdays.  Mommy has been so fortunate to get to spend the past 5 months at home with you, but she’s ready to work again.  It will just make the evenings that much more fun when we get home.  We hope you are on your best behavior for your grandparents and enjoy your special time with them.

As always, we are looking forward to seeing all the new and exciting things that you’ll do this next month.  We love you so much!
