Nov. 10th: House Inspection

Landen and I were snoozing in bed on the morning of Nov. 10th when I heard a “thunk” on the side of the house.  I kinda thought a bird or something hit the house so I didn’t think much of it.  But then a minute or two later I heard it again but it was louder and definitely not a bird.  It sounded like someone was doing something to our house.  I immediately hopped out of bed and started peeking through the window to see what the heck is going on.  I see a man standing in the neighbor’s driveway staring at the side of our house with a clipboard.  He keeps looking up and then down to take notes.  I have no idea who he is or what he’s doing so I’m pretty nervous.  Luckily Landen stayed asleep, along with our “guard dog”.  I finally decided to grab my camera and take some pictures just in case something happened.  Unfortunately the bedroom window was totally dirty and the sun was reflecting off of it so all I got was this:

Helpful huh?  At this point he’s probably been there about 5-10 minutes and I have no idea what to do.  I was too afraid to go out there so I decide to call John and see what he thought.  As I was dialing I peeked outside again and noticed the man was gone.  I ran to the front window and snapped a picture of him getting into his truck before he drove off.

I was so relieved he was gone but totally weirded out.  What the heck was that guy doing to my house!!!??!  Later that day when I went out to grab the mail I noticed a slip of paper on the door mat.  I picked it up and saw that it was a City of Lakewood inspection notice.  Weird, we weren’t doing anything to our house – why would we need an inspection?  I read through it and saw odd write-ups for things pertaining to solar panels and not painting the cable line.  I was totally scratching my head.  This answered who the man was at the house earlier, but not why we were being inspected for solar panels that we definitely weren’t installing.  After staring at the notice for awhile I finally figured out that was going on … the inspector was on the wrong street!!!  He had written the address at the top – same house number, but one street over!  Mystery solved!

  1. Did you call them and tell them they had the wrong house? Creepy.

  2. I was planning to call them the next day ... but then I forgot! By the time I remembered it was a few days later and I assumed they figured out what happened. Definitely very creepy!
