Dear Landen,
Can you
believe it Bubba? You’re already a year old! It just blows our mind. This year
has really flown by. You’ve gone from a baby hooked up to wires in an incubator
to this amazing little man who delights us every day.
You’ve been
teething some more and another top tooth broke through in the middle of the
month. The only thing that really seems to help when you’re teething is Advil.
You certainly are not interested in eating when your gums hurt but you’ll
usually drink your formula. We tried putting your formula in a sippy cup to
start transitioning you off of the bottle but you were definitely not a fan of
that. This may be a battle! You have figured out how to feed yourself snacks.
We put them on your highchair table and you can pick them up and put them in
your mouth. This was a HUGE development. You choked on a Cheerio at Mimi’s
house and just about scared her to death. Her CPR/choking training came in
handy though and she was able to get it up (along with some projectile vomit). You
like to eat Eggo waffles or Nutrigrain bars in the morning. We keep trying with
table foods but we haven’t made much headway. We’re not going to give up on you
though!
You have
figured out your stacking cups and like to put them inside eachother. You get
really frustrated if they aren’t cooperating. You throw them and scream! And
then go get them and try again. We’re glad you’re being persistent and not
giving up. You’ve also mastered the ring stacker but you don’t always put them
on in the right order. You had your first play in the backyard pool this month.
Man did you have a blast splashing around!
You certainly
kept Mimi on her toes while she was watching you. One day you had a very full
poopy diaper that turned into an adventure to change. It involved poop all over
you, the carpet, the stairs, even between your toes!! I don’t even know how all
that happened but I’m certainly glad it wasn’t one of us who had to deal with
it.
For some
reason, you think it’s pretty fun to slowly shake your head back and forth at
us. And then you get really excited when we do it back to you. You clapped and
cheered “aaaaaaa” with us when Team USA won the basketball gold medal in the
Olympics. You also like to clap along with the audience watching Wheel of
Fortune. You say “mom” and “da-da-da-da” a lot but not directed towards one of
us, it’s just babbling. We got out metal bowls and wooden spoons for you to
play with in the kitchen. You like to bang on them and push the bowl around on
the floor upside down. You’ve started using objects for their intended
purposes: you put keys up to the doorknob, a toothbrush in your mouth, and lids
onto Tupperware.
For most of
the month you were happy as a clam walking around holding onto one or both of
our hands. When we only use one hand you like to hold on to just our index
finger and will fix your grip if it’s different. You sure surprised us when you
started walking out of the blue the evening before your birthday! We were just
hanging out in the living room and all of the sudden you were taking steps!!
Dr. Widelitz predicting you would walk right around you birthday and he was
right! We only wish he hadn’t passed away so we could let him know.
Your birthday
certainly has stirred up some emotions for us. We’ve been reminiscing back to
the scary night Mommy’s water broke early and we rushed to the hospital. We’ve
also talked about your stay in the NICU and then your stay on the Pediatric
floor of the hospital. We’ve talked about the day we brought you home and all
the other fun memories over the past 12 months. You had a bit of rough start
but you’ve rebounded and made us so proud. We truly light up our lives. We’re
so lucky to have you. We cannot wait to see what your next year will bring. We
love you so much Landen!!
