August 25th - 28th: Babymoon to San Diego

As we were getting closer to the end of my pregnancy, John and I were getting more and more exhausted.  We had so much going on all the time that we literally didn't rest.  I had read about babymoons in one of my magazines and decided that I really wanted to go on one.  (A babymoon is one last relaxing weekend away for a couple before their baby arrives.)  We only had one weekend available to go so we asked our bosses for Friday off and booked it before something else came up! I let John decide where we were going to go and he handled the accommodations.  Since I'm usually the official planner around here it was really weird not to be planning it, but I really didn't care where we went as long as the hotel was nice and we could just lounge around and do nothing!!  San Diego was our destination - far enough away to feel like a real trip but close enough to home in case we needed to rush back for some reason.

We both worked 1/2 day on Thursday and then drove down to San Diego that afternoon hoping to miss a lot of traffic.

Here we go!!

Once we got down there, I discovered that we were staying at The W downtown.  Fancy!  Unfortunately they don't have any self-parking so we had to valet the car all weekend.  It was super convenient, but pricey.  As we were checking in I told John that the hotel totally reminded me of our friend Sam.  He definitely agreed!  :)

We're babymooning!!

After spending some time getting settled in and having maintenance come up to fix the bathroom door (it was a sliding door but the mechanism was broken so we couldn't close it), we wandered down around the corner to have dinner at Karl Strauss Brewery.  It was yummy!

Garlic Parmesian Brewery Fries to start

John had the Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna. He said it was delicious.

I had a very yummy Beef Dip sandwich.

Since the waterfront seemed to be so close to where we were, we decided to walk down there after dinner.  Big mistake.  It was WAY further than my pregnant body was up for.  We did it, but I was hurting pretty bad.  We walked to the Broadway Pier and saw the USS Midway Museum on the water.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped by a 7-Eleven to get some water and snacks.  There was no way we were going to pay the outrageous prices at the hotel.  (For example, Snickers = $7) I was so ready to put my feet up and go to bed by the time we got back!

Friday morning we slept in and relaxed before getting up to go out for lunch.  We drove down to the Gas Lamp Quarter.  We ended up seeing most of it by car as we drove around looking for a good place to park.  Once we did, we walked down the streets a little bit looking for a good place to eat.  We ended up at Rock Bottom Brewery.  (That's 2 breweries in 2 days ... for a pregnant chick!)  The food was really good and we liked it there.

After walking around a little more and buying a few DVDs to watch at the hotel, we hopped back in the car and decided to drive across the bridge to Coronado.  After our little driving tour we headed back to the hotel to chill for a bit before dinner.

John had made reservations for us to eat at the hotel restaurant, called The Restaurant.  It was a little fancy so we changed out of our casual clothes and put on something a tiny bit nicer.

Ready to eat!

We basically had the entire place to ourselves!  We were surprised since it was Friday night but it didn't bother us one bit!  The food was delicious and we had a really nice time just the two of us.

John had a caesar salad and I had the chef's soup (I can't remember what it was but it was really different and really good!).

Roasted halibut for John and crisp chicken breast for me.

Thanks for a delicious dinner honey!

After we ate we decided to go swimming in the very tiny hotel pool.

I hadn't been swimming since we went to Hawaii so I was interested to see how being in the pool would make me feel.  My doctor said I'd feel really buoyant and the water would take the pressure off my aching bones.  Luckily the pool was heated and we had it to ourselves.  We grabbed a couple of floaty noodles and relaxed for awhile.  Unfortunately it was pretty dang chilly getting out of the water but it was nothing a warm shower couldn't fix before we went to bed.

Saturday we decided to check out a different area of the city.  We drove around a bit before stopping at a shopping center for lunch at Pick Up Sticks, shopping at Trader Joe's, and frozen yogurt for dessert.  Then we headed over to Balboa Park.  That place is huge!!  It was pretty busy too since it was a Saturday.  John would have loved to go to the zoo but it was a little pricey and he would have had to push me around in a wheelchair - I would have died walking around that place.  Instead of the zoo we decided to drive around and maybe check out a museum or just find a good spot to relax on the grass.  Eventually we ended up at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.  We could not believe the number of planes they had in that building!!!  It was amazing.  They had it laid out in different time periods starting with WWI and going from there.  We had a great time.

We were very excited when we reached the end of the exhibits and saw an F-18 on display ... especially since the wingtips were folded up and we could see the Moog actuator!!  We had to get pictures of course to show the guys at work.  :)

John thought we should buy this for my dad.

After the museum we relaxed a bit at the hotel before driving to Seaport Village to have dinner at Buster's Beach House.  We sat at a table along the water and ate way too much food.

After all that food we decided to walk around Seaport Village and check out all the shops.  They had a sock shop, a dog shop, and John's favorite - a shop of hot sauces from around the world.  It was pretty neat and a nice way to spend our last evening before heading back to the hotel for another dip in the pool.  Unfortunately this time the water was much cooler and we shared the pool with a family.  It wasn't quite as relaxing but it still felt nice.

The next morning we slept in and then had to pack up and check out.  We were excited to pick up Nala from my parent's house but we were also sad that the babymoon had to end.  It was back to being busy busy busy and getting ready for the baby.

Bump/Maternity Pictures

John and I were pretty good about taking "bump pics" periodically during my first and second trimesters.  Then the third trimester hit and we just sort of forgot.  I have a couple though sprinkled in with pictures from my birthday and other events.

(We skipped July all together apparently.)

August 11th

John and I decided we'd like to have some professional pictures also taken to remember this time in our lives.  John's pretty handy with his camera and could have done them, but we also wanted pictures together.  We didn't really know of any photographers around our area so I did a Google search ... and hit the jackpot!!  I stumbled upon Kristy Geithman's website and immediately fell in the love with her photos.  John contacted her and we set up a shoot on August 21st.  Upon meeting her we instantly fell in love with her.  We feel so fortunate to have been able to work with her and get some amazing photos!!  Here are our favorites (taken on the Long Beach peninsula):
