November 2nd – 14 months old!

Dear Landen,

Time is just chugging along and you’re already 14 months old!  We’ve had a big month this month with lots of new things.

For a few days this past month you absolutely refused to eat table foods and even purees!  We chalked it up to teething and tried our best. You had your first taste of McDonald’s this month (teeny pieces of chicken mcnugget) and discovered that you love Kraft macaroni and cheese.

Unfortunately we’ve had a rough month with nighttime sleeping.  Separation anxiety at night seemed to appear when you got sick with the croup and never went away.  Plus you’ve been getting your molars so your gums hurt.  Some nights are good, but most are interrupted by your crying.  During the day you take a morning nap and an afternoon nap pretty regularly. You still won’t nap in your crib though so you sleep with us on the couch or in our bed.

You said your first word this month!!  It was no surprise to us that it was “nah-nah” for Nala.  At first we weren’t sure if you were really saying it or just babbling, but you’ve confirmed it now.  You say “eh?” and “ah?” all the time in a questioning tone of voice.  You’ve started saying “uh-oh” instead of “oh-oh” but you’re not really using it in the right context yet. You’ll get there.  When you try to do something you know you shouldn’t be doing you look at us first and then shake your head “no”.  Sometimes you’ll stop yourself there but often you’ll still do it.  Mimi taught you how to “talk like an Indian” and you think that’s pretty fun.

You are very active these days! You’ve started to climb onto things: the seat of your firetruck, the stool in the kitchen, your monkey chair in your bedroom à We really have to watch you and move things as necessary.  You’ve started to “store” things in nooks and crannies around the house like behind the couch pillows and inside our shoes. The kitchen drawers are very fun for you to play in. You take everything out and turn the kitchen into a disaster area. It got to be such an issue that we put childproofing locks on several of them so you can’t make such a mess.  After watching Daddy making dinner one night you reached up and opened the oven door on your own. Mommy just about had a heart attack!  I went out and purchased an oven lock the next day.  You love walking around with a bowl and a spoon and stirring.  You usually hold the spoon by the very tip of the handle.  Your new favorite morning past time is tearing apart the drawers in Mommy’s closet. You pull out all my hair stuff, spare makeup, socks, shoes, you name it!  I finally had to do some rearranging and tape drawers closed because I couldn’t handle reorganizing it all every day.  You like to eat your snacks on Nala’s bed but you always get up completely covered in dog fur.  You squeal with delight if I chase you around the house saying “I’m gonna get you”.  I can just give you look and you take off running.  You discovered that if you push the “copy” button on the printer, a blank sheet of paper will come out so that’s been happening a lot. This month we took you to your very first pumpkin patch this month.  You had a good time but seemed to be a little overwhelmed by the new environment and all the strangers.  Lolo took you to a tumbling class through the City of Lakewood.  You enjoying running around and playing on the equipment.

You’re getting to be such a little boy now!  Our baby disappears a little more each and every day.  You’re wearing a size 5 diaper already and 18 month clothes (although many of the pants are too long)!!  And you have 11 teeth total!  We’re waiting for the upper right molar to come in and then hopefully we’ll have a teething break for awhile.

We can’t wait to see what adventures we’ll have next month and to see what new things you’ll be doing.  We love you Bubba-head!
