July 2nd: 10 months old!!

Dear Landen,

You’re ten months old!!  Double digits!  How’d you get so big so fast???  You’ve been getting some new teeth – your top right and left teeth popped through in the beginning of the month.  You’ve taught yourself how to turn your mouth into a musical instrument!  You finger your lips and make “bub” sounds at the same time.

You starting pulling yourself up to a stand in the beginning of the month but you were pretty wobbly at first.  It didn’t take long before you started balancing better.  You scared us to death when you pull yourself up on one of the dining room chairs and pulled it over on top of you.  You hit the floor and then the chair hit you in the head twice!!  You were obviously very upset and had bruises on your forehead for awhile to remind us what had happened.  We’ve rearranged the chairs so that can’t happen again.

For most of the month you’ve army crawled all around the house.  It’s amazing how fast you are at it!!  All of the sudden at the end of the month you abandoned the army crawl and started zooming around on your hands and knees.  We thought you were fast before but it was nothing compared to now.  Your knees and the tops of your feet are absolutely filthy by the end of the day.  We’ve baby-proofed everywhere except the office.  We have to watch out for all the computer cords under the desks and Nala’s water bowl (you think it’s a personal pool).  We were surprised when we went to a Concert in the Park and you tried to crawl off of the blanket.  You’ve always been very reluctant to have anything to do with grass.  Apparently that’s no longer an issue.

We started you on a new feeding schedule after seeing Dr. Widelitz at the beginning of the month.  You now get six 4 oz. bottles per day, 3 meals (including cereal at breakfast and dinner) and 2 snacks.  We tried to give you a dissolving “puff” but you gagged and threw up almost immediately.  We used to think you were gagging because you didn’t like the taste of something but now you’re showing us that you have a texture aversion.  After taking a break for a couple of weeks, Mimi gave you part of a Mum-Mum at your sign language class and you ate it!!  Since you did so well, she bought some yogurt melts and you ate those too!!  We were so proud of you.  Sometimes you will nibble on the yogurt melts with your front teeth but mostly you just let them dissolve on your tongue. You won’t eat a chunky puree but we’ll keep working on it.  You love drinking water off of a spoon or taking a sip from the side of a cup.  You refuse sippy cups so we’re working on drinking from a straw.  You kind of get the idea sometimes but that will need some more work too.

You’ve made such big gains and are turning into a little boy more and more each day.  We’re so proud of you when you learn to do something new.  We can’t wait to see what the next month brings!

(We had to do two photoshoots with you this month because you were not being very cooperative.  We hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come …)
